ELOG is a long-term, national platform of civil society and faith-based organizations working to strengthen democracy through credible observation, electoral accountability, public participation, and evidence-based engagement in Kenya and the African region.

The Elections Observation Group (ELOG) is a permanent and national forum comprising civil society organizations, including faith-based organizations, with the mandate of strengthening democracy through promoting transparent and accountable electoral processes that include public participation.

ELOG observes and monitors electoral processes through impartial, integral, and inclusive lenses, working with partners in Kenya and across the African region to produce objective and independent reporting, promote accountability, and support democratic integrity.

What Defines ELOG

ELOG’s identity is shaped by its coalition model, electoral-cycle approach, observation methodologies, and regional engagement.

Coalition Model

ELOG brings together civil society and faith-based organizations into a long-term national platform working collectively to strengthen democracy and electoral accountability.

Electoral Cycle Approach

Our work covers the pre-election, election-day, and post-election periods, allowing observation and engagement across the full electoral process.

Observation Methodologies

ELOG employs short-term, long-term, and thematic observation methodologies, including general observation and Parallel Vote Tabulation (PVT).

Regional Reach

ELOG has also played a regional role, including spearheading the formation of E-HORN and serving as its secretariat in East and Horn of Africa observation networks.

Secretariat

Led by the National Coordinator, the Secretariat manages day-to-day programmes, coordination, observation operations, and delivery.

Our Journey

Milestones in Observation and Electoral Accountability

Since 2010, ELOG has contributed to major democratic processes in Kenya and the region through observation, audits, reform tracking, and electoral accountability initiatives.

2010 Referendum

Observed the constitutional referendum with large-scale deployment and Parallel Vote Tabulation support.

General Elections

Observed the 2013 and 2017 general elections through structured electoral-cycle methodologies and public reporting.

Register Audit & Tracker

Conducted an independent voter register audit and launched efforts to track electoral reforms and accountability priorities.

Regional Observation

Supported election observation and democratic engagement in the region, including through E-HORN and cross-border partnerships.

Who We Are

ELOG is a long-term, permanent national election observation and monitoring platform bringing together civil society, faith-based and thematic organizations to strengthen democracy and electoral integrity in Kenya and the African region.

How We Work

The platform combines national governance, thematic expertise and devolved regional coordination through Regional Observation Platforms covering all 47 counties.

General Assembly

Provides overall direction, approves reports, and ensures accountability of the platform.

Advisory and Peace Panel

Offers high-level advice, peacebuilding interventions, and represents ELOG on critical national matters.

Steering Committee

Provides governance, supervises the Secretariat, and guides implementation of ELOG programs.

Secretariat

Manages programs, data, reporting, observer coordination, and stakeholder engagement.

Thematic Groups

Drive technical analysis, develop tools, and produce thematic reports and recommendations.

Regional Observation Platforms (ROPs)

Coordinate grassroots observation, stakeholder engagement, and observer deployment at regional level.
